My Project: Developing Fungals

Indie Game · 2026

Fungals is my personal game project, which I develop in my free time. Through this project, I am studying the complete game development pipeline and gradually exploring different areas of game production.

I independently create environments, characters, props, and animations, as well as develop gameplay mechanics, the story, and the game lore. The project is being created in Unreal Engine.

Early Character Prototypes and Animation

The first tests focused on the character's shape, basic movement, and animation behavior in Unreal Engine.

Early Gameplay Mechanics

At this stage, I prototyped basic interactions, character movement, and the first environmental mechanics.

Multiplayer Experiment

At one stage, I moved away from the original concept and experimented with multiplayer. I later dropped the idea and returned to developing a single-player game. The project even reached early testing on Steam.

Physical Backpack System

Implementing the physical backpack in multiplayer was one of the most challenging tasks. After returning to single-player, I was able to focus on the usability and feel of the inventory instead of spending most of the time on network synchronization and related issues.

The Cart as a Core Gameplay System

The physical cart is one of the main systems around which the gameplay is built. It includes rollover protection, a damage system, and repairs. Some behavior is intentionally exaggerated in the demonstration videos to make the mechanics easier to understand.

Game Logo

The game originally had a logo created for the multiplayer concept, with a brighter and more playful tone. After returning to the original visual direction, it no longer matched the project, so I redesigned it from scratch, from sketching and modeling to sculpting, rendering, and post-processing.

Models, Props, and Animations

I create all game models and props myself: modeling, texturing, optimizing, and preparing them for use in Unreal Engine. This helps me improve as a 3D artist and gradually build a consistent visual style for the project.
